Snufflebear's Poem

A Poem by Snufflebear

From Snufflebear’s Guide to Life

Hey, little buddy!
My name is Snufflebear.
I wrote you poem
while you were in there.

*ahem*

Welcome to this world,
IT’S A REALLY BIG PLACE!
You’re here to explore,
and find dreams you want to chase.

Dreams aren’t just something
you explore at night;
your life is a story
that you get to write.

As you write your story,
it’ll help you to know
some very helpful skills
to perfect as you grow.

It’s really pretty simple:

Always be kind to others
and don’t be afraid;
life isn’t a test,
there won’t be a grade.

Try not to let
what they say you “should do,”
rob you of meeting
the really real you.

And don’t worry too much
about what others think;
we’ve all got opinions,
and most of them stink.

The only real measure
of how well you do
is how joy-filled you feel,
and how big your heart grew.

Learn how to care
for yourself and others.
Learn to be your
very best friend.

Learn to be courageous,
and always be honest!
And let things go
when it’s their time to end.

Learn how to hear
what’s inside your heart.
It’s hard to go wrong
when that’s where you start.

And learn to use your mind
so it doesn’t use you.
It’s literalerly…
liter… literalerl…

*sigh* hoo boy.
IT’S LITERALERLRLY the best thing to do!

Be nice to bears,
but don’t get too close.
They’re neat and they’re cute
but they might eat you like toast!

Enjoy the small things.
Like sun on your nose
and flowers in Spring,
and all of the beautiful
ways that birds sing.

Eat cupcakes and broccoli
and beans and cream puffs.
But do it all in moderation
because enough is enough.

Learn to be comfortable
with saying “no.”
And you probably don’t
want to eat yellow snow.

Embrace every moment.
The “good” and the “bad,”
because this right here
is all we ever have.

The past and the future
are only ideas.
But this moment right here
is really really reals.

It holds everything
that we’ll ever know:

The sun, the moon,
that beautiful rainbow!
The light, the dark,
the joys, and the aches…

I know you can do it.
You’ve got what it takes.

Your life is a story
that you get to write.
So make it amazing
with all of your might.

Now get out there
and create something really great.
Because you’re the greatest masterpiece
that you’ll ever make.

This life is huge, exciting,
it’s noisy and beautiful.
It’s loud and fast
and quiet and musical.

It’s all of these things,
and constantly new.
It’s magical and wonderful…
just like you.
